About Us
For the past ten years our family and friends have come together to coordinate the “Mexican Open”,
a golf tournament for the community to enjoy the game of golf and to
celebrate Mexican Independence Day, the blending of Mexican and American
cultures. Proceeds from the tournament are donated to three groups of
beneficiaries:
1) Yolo Hospice
to help patients and their loved ones who are in need of end-of-life
care and/or grief support in Solano, Yolo, Sacramento and Colusa
Counties.
2) Six college-bound, graduating high school seniors; two each from Vacaville and Will C. Wood High Schools and one each from Dixon and Winters High Schools.
3) Families in need;
In 2010 our committee donated funds to Families Helping Families and
assisted them in putting care packages together during the holiday
season.

Our HistoryIn 2002, Tony Cueva,
president of the Mexican Open Committee, suggested to a group of friends
that they formalize their own tournament and turn it into a fundraiser
for the Vacaville community. Since Tony and the group of friends are of
Mexican decent, they named their event the Mexican Open Golf
Tournament. They selected a local, non-profit group focused on cancer
research and community education as their inaugural beneficiary.
In 2003, they sought
another local community group to receive the tournament’s net profit.
An in-law of the family, Maggie Kutter, a registered nurse, suggested
Yolo Hospice, where she worked. Yolo Hospice, organized in 1979, is the
first non-profit, all volunteer hospice to serve Yolo and Solano
counties.
As the Mexican Open grew in
size and recognition, more family and friends became involved. In 2006
they applied for and received 501(c)(3) status, thereby enabling the
Mexican Open to pursue and offer tax deductible donations. In 2006, the
officers expanded the scope of their giving to include scholarships to
graduating seniors.
Currently, the Mexican
Open Committee is working on several ideas and new ways to give back.
With the economical situation the committee is determined to do
something to help and do more for the people in the community.
